Facts about the need of KIND-R

Neurological Problems

6.2% of Pakistan’s population is physically and/or mentally disabled of the total disabled population:

  • 43% are children—nearly 2 million
  • 42% are women
  • 65% live in urban areas,
  • 35% live in rural areas

Common Causes

  • Poor prenatal care and mother-child healthcare facilities lead to higher incidences of cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders in children.
  • Humanitarian emergencies, such as earthquakes, floods, disproportionately impact people with existing disabilities and create a constant need for rehabilitative services due to spinal injuries, amputations, etc.
  • Congenital and hereditary disorders, road traffic accidents, tumors, meningitis, and other infections are also prevalent.

Neurological Diseases

As neurological diseases are on the rise, the brain, spinal cord, and nerves are affected, often resulting in long-term illnesses and disabilities such as:
  • Stroke
  • Parkinsonism Seizures
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Facial Palsy
  • Migraine
  • Paralysis
With rehabilitation centers almost non-existent in the country, the plight of the disabled is further exacerbated
